A Taste of Bridgerton Comes to Niagara-on-the-Lake

On Saturday, November 4, 2023, chocolate enthusiasts gathered at the historic Old Court House in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The Chocolate Ball returned with its special “Taste of Bridgerton” Gala theme, offering an evening of elegance, entertainment, and chocolate indulgence.

Inspired by the romance, fashion, music, and social traditions of the Regency Era, the event transformed the historic venue into a unique celebration. Modern entertainment blended seamlessly with the charm of a bygone age. The gala took place in picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake. Known for its heritage architecture, wineries, and connection to the War of 1812, the town provided a unique backdrop for the event.

The Return of a Chocolate Ball Tradition

Guests were welcomed by the rich aroma of chocolate throughout the historic courthouse. The venue sits in the heart of the town’s vibrant main street district. The evening marked the return of a major Chocolate Ball celebration following the last large-scale “Cocouture Fashion” event held at Toronto’s Eglinton Grand four years earlier.

Regency Entertainment and Elegant Celebrations

The gala featured performers inspired by the Regency and Victorian periods. Guests also enjoyed interactive entertainment, themed floor shows, and music that blended contemporary favourites with classical influences. Attendees enjoyed an atmosphere of sophistication, fun, and celebration throughout the evening.

Supporting Important Community Initiatives

As part of the annual Toronto Chocolate Festival, The Chocolate Ball continued a long-standing tradition. The event has brought chocolate lovers together in Toronto, Vaughan, Hamilton, and Niagara-on-the-Lake while supporting charitable causes. Proceeds from the event helped benefit Prostate and Breast Cancer Initiatives as well as Heart, Mind, and Soul Initiatives.

The MEGA Chocuterie Board Experience

One of the evening’s highlights was the signature Chocolateria experience, featuring the debut of the impressive MEGA Chocuterie Board. Southern Ontario’s leading chocolatiers, chocolate makers, pastry chefs, and culinary professionals presented the display. Guests enjoyed an extraordinary assortment of chocolates, desserts, and chocolate-inspired savoury creations. Visitors sampled a wide variety of sweet and savoury offerings. Many also discovered new flavours and innovative chocolate experiences.

Dressing for the Occasion

In keeping with the Bridgerton-inspired theme, attendees were encouraged to arrive in period attire. Many embraced the opportunity, appearing in elegant Regency-inspired gowns, military uniforms, waistcoats, and other historical fashions. Throughout the evening, guests presented themselves before Queen Chocolata and her Royal Court. They competed for recognition among the evening’s best-dressed participants.
